Blame Chuck Norris If The Expendables 2 Sucks!
On Wednesday, it was widely reported that Chuck Norris would only star in The Expendables 2 if the producers removed the foul language from the screenplay and made sure that the film received a PG-13 rating.
Like many fans of the first film, I was very upset about the news. What made The Expendables so great the first time was the over the top violence and language. Instead of trying to play it safe, Sylvester Stallone made a film where Dolph Lundgren cut a bad guy in half within the first five minutes. The film was a party. When you tone down what made the first film a success because of a single actor’s wishes, it’s obviously time to consider recasting.
Sadly, Stallone sent a message to Ain’t It Cool News to confirm the rumors:

Harry, the film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance… Our final battle is one for the ages. The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement,  trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and  delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry…Sly

We all know that in a few months after the film’s theatrical release there will be an unrated cut available on Blu Ray and respective streaming services, but that just seems to go against the theatrical experience. The Expendables was great because I saw it in a theater with some friends and a collection of people that absolutely lost their mind during the action sequences. It’s baffling to think that the filmmakers would want to release a neutered version in theaters.
