Here’s our first look at P.T. Anderson’s latest The Master. It’s kind of a teaser, kind of a look at Joaquin Phoenix’s character in the film. If you’re looking for any part of the story or plot, you won’t find it here and that’s just fine.
Take this as a taste of the upcoming meal that Anderson is preparing for us and leave it at that. Unless, of course, you’d like a description of the shown footage at the Cannes Film Festival, in which case, you could always check this report out.
It’s been a rather exciting week for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film, The Master. According to the trades and various blogs, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Lena Endre, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshofsky will co star with the previously announced leads, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix.
It’s been speculated that Adams will play the wife of Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman), a charismatic man who starts a religious organization that may or may not bear any similarities to Scientology.
The Master is slated to begin production in two to three weeks! With the troubled history of this project (originally set up at Universal, but it was put in turnaround, then it was set up at River Road Entertainment/Apparition, but Apparition went out of business, then Jeremy Renner became attached the project, but couldn’t find financing and in September of 2010, the project was delayed indefinitely. Then Megan Ellison saved the day and agreed to finance the $35 million dollar project and the Weinstein Company recently purchased the rights to distribute the film), it’s hard to believe that it’s finally happening. The producers of the film need to set up a Facebook page or a Twitter account to post a few pictures from the production office or the first day of production or just a photo of Anderson talking with his D.P. whomever that may be because IMDB Pro refuses to update their listings.
